Stable, Code-Compliant Fire Alarm Power Supplies

Because fire alarm systems are so critical to protecting lives and property, power disruptions are never an option. Honeywell's fire alarm power supplies offer stable, regulated 24 VDC power to notification appliance circuits, detectors, annunciators and other system peripherals.

Honeywell power supplies can connect to virtually any fire alarm control panel or operate as standalone units, providing the redundant power infrastructure needed to help maintain uninterrupted performance across commercial and industrial facilities.

Regulated power delivery for notification appliances and system peripherals

Fire alarm systems—and the people they protect—depend on consistent, regulated voltage to operate properly. Honeywell’s PS Series remote power supplies can deliver filtered 24 VDC power and can be independently configured as output circuits. These units also supply constant or resettable auxiliary power designed to support four-wire smoke detectors, annunciators, door holders and other fire alarm accessories that require regulated power.

Output circuits allow mixed Class B and Class A configurations within a single unit.
Filtered 24 VDC output can maintain stable voltage for sensitive detection and notification equipment.
Auxiliary power outputs support both constant-power and resettable applications for system flexibility.

Battery backup with automatic switchover and supervisory monitoring capabilities

Life safety systems need to operate without interruption, even in the occurrence of a power outage. The PS Series includes an integral battery charger that supports lead-acid batteries. Full system supervision can monitor power supply status, battery condition and notification appliance circuits, with LED diagnostics offering quick troubleshooting and diagnostic history tracking.

Integration with fire detection, control and notification system components

Effective fire safety systems require coordinated operation across multiple subsystems. The PS Series integrates with any UL 864 fire alarm control panel utilizing industry-standard reverse-polarity notification circuits. The units support UL-Listed notification appliance circuit (NAC) synchronization using System Sensor, Wheelock, Gentex or AMSECO appliances, and can be configured for American National Standards Institute (ANSI) Temporal 3 or Temporal 4 coded output.

Configurable options for flexible installation

The PS Series helps streamline the often-complex installation process with its configurable design. The compact cabinet is made of scratch and has a corrosion resistant finish, with configurable terminal blocks supporting a wide range of wiring scenarios.

Calculate Power Requirements With the CLSS Tool Suite

Power sizing mistakes can lead to code violations, expensive redesign costs and installation delays. The Connected Life Safety Services (CLSS) Tool Suite consolidates battery calculations, voltage drop calculations and dB line loss into a single desktop application designed to help plan fire safety system installations. The tool performs fire alarm panel and power supply battery calculations based on NFPA 72 requirements for 24-hour standby plus alarm duration, helping determine appropriate battery capacity and power supply configuration.

Frequently Asked Questions About Fire Alarm Power Supplies

Fire alarm systems in commercial and industrial facilities must comply with NFPA 72 where adopted by local codes. NFPA 72 requires secondary power supporting 24 hours standby plus minimum five minutes alarm operation, or 24 hours standby plus 15 minutes for voice/alarm systems. The HPF-PS6 and HPF-PS10 power supplies are also UL Listed to UL 864 and UL 1481, meeting NFPA 72 power supply requirements and supporting 7-33 AH battery configurations.

Per NFPA 72, battery capacity calculations consider total standby current over 24 hours plus alarm current for minimum alarm duration. HPF-PS6 has 3.0A standby and 6.0A alarm current, while HPF-PS10 has 3.0A standby and 10.0A alarm current. For minimum amp-hour capacity, calculate as (standby current × 24 hours) plus (alarm current × alarm hours). The PS Series supports 7-33 AH batteries, with cabinets holding two 7 or 18 AH batteries internally.

The PS Series supports both Class A and Class B notification appliance circuits. Standard operation uses Class B wiring with independently configurable outputs. The optional ZNAC-PS converter module enables Class A without losing outputs. A 6-amp model keeps five circuits, while a 10 amp model keeps seven circuits in either configuration. Circuits can be mixed for Class A and Class B within one unit.
