Advance Control for Buildings

Honeywell Advance Control for Buildings

Our most substantial leap in building controls to date

Connected control for more efficient, more secure buildings

Advance Control is Honeywell's engineering architecture for building controls. It’s our strategy to ensure reliable, data-intensive building control in an IoT-based reality. Advance Control architecture is how we make fully connected, secure, edge-to-cloud building automation a cost-effective reality for all buildings, not just flagship buildings.

This design and engineering platform is the foundation supporting Honeywell's automation portfolio. Sharing a unified starting point allows future-ready development across products that share a core set of capabilities, enabling connection across devices and generations.

Cybersecurity and secure network transport protocols

ISA 62443-certified controllers built on Advance Control architecture provide validated security architecture at the edge. Standardized protocols and frameworks help reduce OT network vulnerability without requiring infrastructure replacement. Across product lines, our controllers can offer:

ISA 62443 certified development and product
IP-grade edge security without rewiring
Encrypted OT network communication

Intelligent edge processing and machine-learning-driven process improvement

Advance Control architecture combines operational efficiency capabilities with built-in cybersecurity and faster network connectivity to help reduce energy use and operational costs. Our approach enables important capabilities across product lines and brands:

Machine learning integration with automation
Streamlined systems for operational efficiency gains
Built-in OT cybersecurity protection

Legacy infrastructure interoperability and T1L-enabled deployment

T1L technology enables 10 Mbps IP communication over existing twisted-pair cabling up to 1 kilometer. Deploy IP-enabled controllers on legacy infrastructure without rewiring, reducing installation costs and retrofit complexity.

Retrofit without infrastructure replacement
Future-facing compatibility via shared architecture

Modular architecture and multi-system integration framework

Open protocol architecture supports integration across fire, security, access control and HVAC systems. Universal I/O configurations adapt to changing operational requirements without controller replacement.

Open protocols for multi-system integration
Universal I/Os adapt to requirement changes
Service modules without adjacent disconnects

Embodied carbon transparency through CIBSE TM65 lifecycle reporting

Honeywell provides CIBSE TM65 reports for products built on the Advance Control architecture used in Europe and the UK, quantifying embodied carbon across the entire product lifecycle. These reports calculate greenhouse gas emissions from manufacture through end-of-life disposal.

Lifecycle emissions tracking per TM65 methodology
Reports available through sales support teams
Supports regulatory compliance and ESG goals
CIBSE framework supports calculation consistency

IP over existing wiring

Advance Control architecture introduced T1L technology to building automation, enabling IP communication over legacy twisted-pair cabling. This approach reduces rewiring costs and accelerates modernization for buildings with aging infrastructure.
ISA 62443-certified development standard

Products built on Advance Control architecture have achieved ISA 62443 cybersecurity certification for both development process and for the product.1 This embedded security approach protects operational technology from evolving cyber threats without add-on solutions.
Foundation of compatibility

Advance Control architecture provides a common engineering foundation across Honeywell's building control product lines, including Optimizer Suite, Alerton, Tridium and Trend. Shared, universal architecture reduces development costs and accelerates innovation delivery.

Frequently Asked Question About the Advance Control Architecture

Advance Control architecture combines edge intelligence, machine learning and IP connectivity to streamline building operations. Controllers analyze patterns and propose improvements while T1L technology enables IP communication over existing wiring. ISA 62443 cybersecurity certification helps protect systems, and the modular architecture allows phased upgrades through open protocols without full infrastructure replacement.

Machine learning at the edge identifies patterns in system performance, energy use and behavior. Controllers process data locally to reduce latency and bandwidth requirements. They learn from historical patterns to spot efficiency opportunities, enabling efficiency gains that might elude human operators.

T1L technology enables advanced industrial networking with IP communication at 10 Mbps over existing twisted-pair cabling, eliminating the need for infrastructure replacement. Buildings can deploy IP-enabled controllers on legacy wiring without disruptive and expensive rewiring projects. This reduces installation costs, minimizes operational disruption and accelerates modernization timelines for facilities with aging infrastructure.
