Next-Generation Sensing for Fire and Hazard Prevention

When hazards threaten personnel and infrastructure, a rapid response can make all the difference. That’s why early detection is so important. Honeywell's advanced detection systems combine laser-based sensors, off-gas monitoring and intelligent analytics to help identify fire, smoke, and battery thermal events in their early stages. These solutions can integrate with suppression, voice evacuation and building automation platforms to deliver a coordinated response across your entire facility.

Very early warning smoke detection

VESDA aspirating smoke detection can deliver the earliest possible warning of fire threats by continuously analyzing air samples with laser-based sensors. The system can identify smoke at its earliest stage—often before it's visible to the human eye—buying critical time to investigate before a fire develops.

Detection range from 0.001% to 20% obscuration per meter.
Four configurable alarm thresholds can aid in precise response based on a facility's specific risk profile.
Multi-stage filtration and self-cleaning technology can maintain consistent performance in harsh environments.
Field-replaceable components, remote monitoring via WiFi or Ethernet and 20,000-event logs can optimize uptime.

Off-gas monitoring helps prevent lithium-ion battery fires

Li-ion Tamer sensors can detect the critical precursor to thermal runaway—battery off-gassing—helping provide 2 to 30 minutes of advance warning before ignition occurs. This early detection helps give teams time to isolate power, activate suppression systems or evacuate personnel before a battery fire starts.

Detects volatile organic compounds (VOCs), carbon monoxide, and hydrogen released during battery cell venting.
Chemistry-agnostic sensors can work across all lithium-ion battery types (NMC, LFP, NCA) and form factors.
Calibration-free operation with plug-and-play installation helps facilitate rapid deployment in battery energy storage systems.
Integration outputs (CANbus, Modbus, Ethernet) can connect to fire panels and building management systems to trigger automated mitigation actions.

Smooth integration with fire panels and building systems

Advanced detection systems integrate directly with fire alarm panels, building automation controllers and emergency communication systems to help coordinate facility-wide responses. Near real-time sensor data enable automated actions from suppression discharge to mass notification, helping provide a unified safety posture.

Direct connection to Honeywell’s fire alarm panels and third-party building automation controllers.
Automated response coordination across suppression systems, voice evacuation, HVAC controls, and mass notification platforms.
Open protocol support for integration with legacy equipment.

Reliable performance in challenging environments and complex facilities

Advanced detection sensors can deliver reliable performance where traditional detectors struggle, including dusty warehouses, high-airflow data centers, extreme temperatures and facilities with structural vibration. IP40-rated enclosures and clean-air barriers can maintain sensitivity over time, while flexible configurations accommodate retrofit installations and facility expansions.

EN 54-20 and UL certifications support compliance with fire safety codes across commercial, industrial and critical infrastructure applications.
Flexible pipe network configurations can allow for retrofit installations, phased deployments and facility expansions without disrupting operations.
Pinpoint addressability and sector-based alarming help identify exact incident locations, reducing investigation time in large or complex buildings.

Ultra-wide sensitivity range of detectors

Sensitivity ranges from 0.001% to 20% obscuration per meter enable detection of incipient smoke before it becomes visible, helping provide critical lead time for investigation and response in high-value facilities and mission-critical environments.
Receive warning before battery thermal runaway

Li-ion Tamer off-gas detection can identify volatile compounds released during battery cell failure, providing advance notice to enable power isolation, suppression activation or evacuation before thermal runaway occurs in energy storage systems.
Greater coverage in high-ceiling applications

Extended pipe runs and branched network configurations can deliver expanded coverage in warehouses, atriums and industrial facilities with ceiling heights that challenge traditional detection methods, while maintaining reliable sensitivity across the protected area.

Frequently Asked Questions About Advanced Detection Systems

Yes. Our advanced detection platforms can connect to NOTIFIER fire panels, building automation systems and third-party controllers through standard protocols including CANbus, Modbus, Ethernet and relay contacts. This integration helps enable coordinated responses across suppression systems, voice evacuation, HVAC controls and mass notification platforms. You can retrofit aspirating smoke detection into existing facilities by installing pipe networks and connecting to your current fire alarm panel.

Facilities can also deploy Li-ion Tamer sensors within battery racks and tie outputs into building management systems. Our engineering teams provide integration support to help map alarm points, configure communication protocols and test system interoperability during commissioning.

Advanced detection systems include built-in diagnostics, event logging and network connectivity capabilities that support both remote monitoring and compliance reporting. VESDA detectors can log up to 20,000 events with timestamps, alarm thresholds and maintenance actions, while Li-ion Tamer sensors provide continuous off-gas trending and temperature data.

Cloud-based platforms can enable facility managers to monitor system health across multiple sites, receive predictive maintenance alerts and generate reports for fire marshal inspections and insurance audits. EN 54-20, UL and NFPA certifications help meet fire safety code requirements, while remote commissioning and diagnostic tools can reduce the need for on-site service visits. Integration with enterprise building management systems can offer centralized oversight of all life safety assets.

Aspirating detection can deliver the most value in high-ceiling spaces, mission-critical facilities and harsh environments where traditional detectors may struggle.

Data centers, warehouses, cold storage and manufacturing plants can benefit from the ability to actively sample air and detect smoke before it reaches ceiling-mounted spot detectors.
Museums, archives and telecommunications facilities use aspirating technology to help identify fire threats at the earliest possible stage, thereby minimizing damage to irreplaceable assets.
Clean rooms, semiconductor fabrication and pharmaceutical manufacturing facilities require detection that can operate reliably despite high airflow, temperature extremes or corrosive atmospheres.

The technology can also simplify maintenance in spaces with limited access by mounting detectors at ground level and extending sampling pipes to remote areas.
