Central to this growth are the Dubai International Airport (DXB) and the Jebel Ali Port, both critical in facilitating the seamless movement of goods across the globe.
The Role of Dubai International Airport (DXB)
Dubai International Airport is among the busiest airports for international passenger traffic. However, it plays an important and growing role in cargo transit, providing connections to more than 155 destinations worldwide4. DXB’s facilities and connectivity support efficient handling of large volumes of cargo and contribute to its elevated position within the global supply chain. In 2024, DXB was ranked as the 11th largest airport worldwide by cargo volume, handling approximately 2.2 million metric tons1. This represented a 20.5% year-over-year increase, moving DXB from 17th to 11th lace among major cargo airports. Investments in smart logistics and digital transformation are streamlining cargo operations and enhancing Dubai’s role in air freight and supply chain innovation.
Jebel Ali Port: A Gateway to the World
Jebel Ali Port is not only the largest in the Middle East, but also one of the most advanced cargo terminals worldwide. Strategically located, the port serves as a gateway for trade between the Middle East, Asia, and the rest of the world. Its capacity to handle over 19 million containers annually3 and its ability to efficiently process cargo underscores its significance in global trade. In 2024, Jebel Ali processed over 15.5 million TEUs2 making it the 9th largest port in the world. This was a record volume with throughput increasing by 7.3% year-over-year.

These companies include DP World, Emirates Logistics, Aramex, Agility Logistics, and Hellmann Worldwide Logistics. Their presence underscores Dubai's status as a premier logistics hub and affirms its growing potential to influence global trade dynamics.
