Honeywell announced a new smart residential gas meter designed to help protect gas customers and utilities across North America through automation and remote operability. The Honeywell NXU Residential Smart Gas Meter is designed with pressure sensing capabilities and an integrated controller that exceeds guidelines for gas tightness.
HOUSTON, March 11, 2025 – Honeywell (NASDAQ: HON) today announced a new smart residential gas meter designed to help protect gas customers and utilities across North America through automation and remote operability. The Honeywell NXU Residential Smart Gas Meter Is designed with pressure sensing capabilities and an integrated controller that exceeds guidelines for gas tightness.
By combining decades of automation knowledge with advanced gas leak detection technology, the Honeywell NXU Residential Smart Gas Meter can help avoid gas leak-related incidents and reduce the need for North American utilities to dispatch crews to homes by quickly shutting off gas to homes remotely.
When paired with the Honeywell Forge Performance+ for Utilities platform, the NXU Residential Smart Gas Meter will enable gas utilities to see near real-time insights, which will help identify any operational inefficiencies to better optimize performance. The platform uses advanced analytics to integrate, organize and visualize data to accelerate processes and digitalize it into actionable business and operational insights.

Leveraging Cat M1 technology with NB-IoT fallback, the Honeywell NXU Residential Smart Gas Meter features advanced ultrasonic technology to measure flow rates and the density of gas composition, which leads to more accurate detection and longer-term reliability. With this technology, the meter can help prevent gas leaks before they cause damage or result in fines for utilities. The meter’s dual form factor allows it to read both 250 and 425 cubic feet of gas per hour, reducing the need for a future hardware replacement if a home’s consumption increases.
